On Tuesday, India witnessed the formation of a formidable alliance of opposition parties aiming to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 general elections. The alliance, named the 'Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance' (INDIA), comprises 26 diverse political parties spanning the ideological spectrum.

The INDIA alliance is a testament to the collective determination of opposition parties to put aside their differences and unite against the common foe. The acronym 'INDIA' stands for Inclusive National Democratic Inclusive Alliance, encapsulating the alliance's commitment to inclusivity and multi-party cooperation. With a collective strength of 26 parties, INDIA represents a broad cross-section of Indian society and political opinion.
The formation of INDIA was announced on day 2 of the opposition parties' two-day meeting in Bengaluru, where the alliance's structure and objectives were finalized. The alliance's primary goal is to present a united electoral front against the BJP and to provide voters with a credible alternative.
