Rutte Selected as NATO Secretary General
Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister to Take Over in October
Mark Rutte, who has served as Dutch Prime Minister for nearly 14 years, has been formally selected as the next NATO Secretary General.
Rutte will take over on October 1 from Jens Stoltenberg of Norway, who is stepping down after a decade in the post. The selection of Rutte, who has been a harsh critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, comes as the war in Ukraine continues to rage on NATO's doorstep.
